Starting the journey with cattle bred border collies came by practical reason. There was already strong breeding of British sheep type border collies in Finland, but not so much for cattle work. The best cattle bred border collies to catch my eye were ranch dogs in USA which fearlessly followed cowboys moving cattle on farms size half of Idaho. Seeing those people with their relentless, tough dogs made me respect their traditional, hard way of life in the USA outbacks, and laiter to bring some of it also to Finland.
Getting lifetime friends after each tour to the USA has been the best thing in having these dogs into my life. The name Toberoi has been a pure coincidence. Laiter, one relative suggested it sounds like ”To-Be-Roi”, so to be a king. Well, not bad.
Toberoi dogs are now working on farms & trialling on open fields in Finland and around Europe. Each litter have taught how to keep natural herding skills by selecting breeding. The health side – compared to total amount of dogs – has stayed rather good, though not one breeding line in the world is perfect.
