For years, I had been following the farmers around Texas who work with cattle dogs. Many border collies which I took a closer look on have been stunning and unequalled.. the toughest border collies I have seen.
Many legendary breeders have achieved their merits in Texas by selling fully trained working border collies to other farms with price around $10.000, or even more.
During 2013 I had been looking for one or two pups from Texas from the famous Steven Sturtz bloodlines. The challenge was most usually only adult dogs were being sold, not puppies. Adult dogs at the ranches are basically never in a house and so are not house-broken. This is a problen in Finland where dogs are kept in houses with people.
Finally, while checking through local farmers in Utah selling hay, calves, tractors and so, there was an announcemet of an expected border collie litter. I came across what I was looking for: Both of the parents were living on the same ranch, and directly bought from Steven Sturtz himself. Even better was to realize the level of inbreeding was zero which is rare among farm border collies in USA. > Chaps pedigree
I am pleased to introduce you Chaps. She is born in Price, Utah, in a traditional cattle ranch up on the highlands of the Rocky Mountains. The home ranch is owned and maintained by a cowboy & horse whisperer Mitch Curtis with his two sons Konan & Calib and their families. While my stay in Utah I had a unique possibility to get to know all these three men and their natural, beautiful way of communicating with the animals.
Chaps and her brother Boots had never left their home ranch when I arrived there. Neither had they been socialized with anything outside the ranch. I was amazed how outgoing, relaxed, well-behaving and curious pups I had in the trunk while I took these two to Salt Lake City for veterinary paperwork. I had to finish the paperwork there a couple of times before leaving the States. Both of the pups were really stable-minded and did not care at all about new sounds, smellings or any other. Laiter, when I was at JFK Airport in New York walking around with the pups it was amazing how keen they were on new things and surroundings.
Chaps is a cheerful girl who just loves attention from anyone. She loves kids and is very humble to all people. This may be a funny cover as when you take her to work you see an immediate change. Chaps is extremely intense, workaholic border collie who got the sparkle for herding since the age of 4 months. She feels no fear for cattle and tried to bite them to the nose being only a puppy still. This sure is inheritaged from her grand-dad who fearlessly was working buffalos back in the States.
Chaps is a lovely companion as she is a sweethear and adapts with other dogs well. She is not dominant but is very keen on food. For food she does anything you ask. Chaps doesn´ t stress about any loud sounds or surfaces.
